How do you know when you window regulator has broken?

Your regulator system over time has a lot of use and eventually the cabling starts to fail. This is very common during the winter months, especially as windows can become icy. When the window regulator fails you will still be able to hear the motor trying to move up and down or grinding/crunching but the window will remain the same.
